Brazilian police have arrested the fugitive Italian mafia boss Rocco Morabito, the BBC reports, writes Trud bg.
Known as the “king of cocaine in Milan” and considered the leader of the Ndrangheta criminal group, he has been one of the most wanted fugitives by Italian justice since 1994.
In Italy, he was sentenced in absentia to 30 years in prison.
In 2017, Morabito was arrested in Uruguay, where he lived in a luxury villa in a resort town near the capital Montevideo.
However, two years later, while awaiting a court decision on the extradition requested by Italy, Rocco, along with three other prisoners, escaped through a hole in the roof of the prison.
The case caused a scandal and led to the removal of the head of the prisons in Uruguay.
Morabito has now been captured at a hotel in Joao Pessoa in northeastern Brazil.
