Every year, the weeks before E3 are marked by rumors and leaks about upcoming game announcements. This year’s trade fair does not seem to be an exception, and some of Square Enix’s plans may already have been revealed.
Nioh meets Final Fantasy
As Fanbyte reports, there has been a lot of talk recently that Square will unveil a new action role-playing game on the game show in June. The game is supposed to be a side jump to the Final Fantasy series, and it is Team Ninja – the developer behind Nioh and Dissidia Final Fantasy NT – who is behind it.
According to the website’s own sources, who should have knowledge of the situation, the game will be called Final Fantasy Origin. It will be console-exclusive for PlayStation 5, with a PC launch planned later – similar to what Sony has done with Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone.
Furthermore, Fanbyte writes that Final Fantasy Origin will be an action role-playing game on the same street as Nioh. It should admittedly be more accessible, it is claimed, to appeal to a wider audience. The plot is supposedly set for the very first Final Fantasy game.
While the rumors do not mention anything about the release date, the plans are apparently already ready for a demo. This may come sometime this summer, titled Stranger in Paradise.
As always, we take rumors with a pinch of salt, and until E3 is over June 15, you can probably just as well leave the salt shaker in front.
Square also has a new adventure game in the oven.
