JAKARTA, COMPASS.TV– For those of you who are still using an old type of ATM card or a card with a black magnetic strip, replace it immediately with an ATM card using a chip.

This is because banks have a deadline for replacing ATM cards. If the customer has not replaced it until the time limit, the card will be blocked.

This rule refers to Bank Indonesia (BI) Circular Letter No.17 / 52 / DKSP concerning Implementation of National Chip Technology Standards and Use of Online 6 (Six) Digit Personal Identification Number for ATM Cards and / or Debit Cards Issued in Indonesia.

BI targets that by the end of this year, all bank customers have used ATM cards with chips. The goal is to minimize the potential for customers to become victims of skimming crimes.

Skimming is the act of stealing ATM card data by means of copying, that is, illegally reading and storing information contained on the card’s magnetic stripe.

The magnetic strip is a wide black stripe located on the back of the ATM card. Almost all banks such as BRI, BCA, Mandiri, and BNI currently use this type of ATM card.
