NEW YORK – Teaching will be done entirely in person next fall in New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio confirmed on Monday.
“We cannot go back to our normal life without having schools that are functioning at full capacity. Children have to go back to classrooms to learn, ”de Blasio said on MSNBC Monday morning.
This announcement concerns approximately one million students in the public school network.
The return to class will be done with health measures, such as wearing a mask and testing for COVID-19, explained the mayor.
“It’s time to get the machine going again at full speed,” added Mr. de Blasio.
After closing its schools in March 2020 due to the pandemic, New York City was the first of major US cities to reopen its schools last fall. The majority of parents, however, have chosen to keep their children at home and have them take their lessons remotely.
