(CRHoy.com). -As has happened on other occasions, more than 40 social actors asked the Government of Carlos Alvarado to accelerate the vaccination process to decrease the number of deaths from COVID-19 as Costa Rica goes through the worst moment of the pandemic.
This Monday, May 24, sectors such as companies, cooperatives, social organizations and the Catholic Church joined to make a “unanimous cry” to the president’s team and look for new options.
The priest and spokesman for the Catholic Church, Edwin Aguiluz told CRHoy.com that in the virtual meeting on Monday all sectors converged and made themselves available to the Executive Power to see them as an ally. In addition, he commented that they proposed to him to open a dialogue table on the advancement of vaccination.
The president of the Union of Chambers (Uccaep), José Álvaro Jenkins, commented that what they are asking is that it is possible to “evaluate other alternatives for the importation of vaccines. Our main theme is that only with an acceleration of vaccination is the only way that we can reduce the deaths that are occurring in the country ”.
The work table led by the Catholic representation made 5 requests to the government in the virtual meeting this Monday:
- That this week a bipartisan table be established, with people who have decision-making capacity.
- That the Vaccination and Epidemiology Commission be instructed analyze all the vaccine alternatives that are being applied in the world
- That the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) receive all the aid to accelerate and improve the current vaccination processes
- Include private sector workers and social organizations in the vaccination priority list
- In case you cannot comply with any of the above, justify it with the legal, technical or political reason
The government told CRHoy.com that during the meeting it was explained to the sectors that it is necessary for any vaccine or medicine to have the approval of an authorized international agent.
The priest commented to this medium that They expect a response from the Government this week.
Geannina Dinarte, Minister of the Presidency; Daniel Salas, Minister of Public Health; Román Macaya, Executive President of the CCSS; Alexander Solís, Executive President of the National Emergency Commission (CNE) and representatives of sectors that are members of the Patriotic Table for the acceleration of vaccination.
