In the week before Roland Garros, the Belgrade 2 ATP takes place, the second tournament within a few weeks to be held in the Serbian capital. After losing to Aslan Karatsev in the semifinals and Matteo Berrettini’s victory in the finals, the number 1 in the world and local idol Novak Djokovic will take part in the event in order to reach Roland Garros in the best possible way.
After the recent defeats in Monte Carlo, Belgrade and the final in Rome, Nole wants to reach Roland Garros with at least one tournament won on clay. This year, 2021, after winning the Australian Open, Novak continues to pursue his two big rivals in the battle for the most Grand Slam titles: Currently the Serbian champion is chasing 18 titles, while Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are chasing this ranking with 20 Cite titles.
In statements, both Nole and his father have repeatedly expressed a will to try to catch up with their big rivals before the end of the year. A very difficult thing, but not impossible as the Serb will be the big favorite at both Wimbledon and the US Open.
From certain points of view, however, it is a sensation that the Serbian tennis player is only taking part in an ATP 250 a week before a Grand Slam tournament, his declared goal since the beginning of the season. After the bye in the first round, Novak Djokovic expects the winner between a qualifier and Belarusian Egor Gerasimov, but there are very few tennis players fighting for the title.
A main draw with many talented players
Accomplices in the upcoming Roland Garros there are very few great tennis players who can take part in the tournament. The number 2 seed is the French, who will decline sharply in 2021, Gael Monfils, who is waiting for the winner between the compatriot and the executioner of Jannik Sinner in Lyon, Arthur Rinderknech and a qualifier.
Lots of Serbs in the draw as it should be and the world number one could face Miomir Kecmanovic in the quarter-finals in a fascinating Serbian derby. In the possible quarter-finals another interesting game between Filip Krajinovic and the winner between Adrian Mannarino and Lucas Pouille (in case of a victory over the Spaniard Fernando Verdasco).
