Dr André Déazon moderated a conference on the challenge of the education system in Côte d’Ivoire, at the University Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Cocody.

“Work for a performance of the education system”. This is the contribution that Dr André Déazon wants to make to his country, the Ivory Coast. In this sense, he led a conference on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny University in Abidjan-Cocody. During which, he made several proposals for the overhaul of the said system. Among these, the creation of a National Council for Education / Training (Cnef). Because for him, to develop any society, we must focus on education. “If education is not in its rightful place, there will never be development,” he says. The National Council of Education, explains Dr Déazon, will be a scientific instrument which will have a watch function. To this end, it will be responsible for controlling and monitoring the system in terms of its scientific performance. He will also be responsible for memorizing what has been learned. It will not only be a laboratory that will take care of training, scientific work and innovations. But also an organ which will give the Ivorian school its identity. It is a permanent structure where experts will work. The choice of members, he said, falls within the competence of the President of the Republic and the Minister of National Education. The quality of the instrument will depend on the quality of the experts chosen.

The National Council for Education / Training, once established, will promote an in-depth transformation of the whole system. However, according to the speaker, this overhaul of the system must necessarily begin with the primary which is the source.

“The Lmd System suspended from higher education does not conform to the nature of the Ivorian education system. Which starts from the primary to the upper and which functions like a river whose source is the primary. You cannot change the last third of a river by dropping the source that is causing the problems. If we want to clean up the education system. It must be cleaned up in its entirety. This position met with the support of the President of the Republic who called for an in-depth renovation of the education system, ”he maintains.

In this renovation, Dr. Déazon further argues that a different educational approach is needed. Insofar as according to him, without pedagogy, the school turns into an information center. In this context, it offers capacity pedagogy. This form of pedagogy which will allow students to be autonomous and independent.

“Without capacity, competence cannot be exercised. It is capacity that makes us self-reliant and independent. Under what condition can we train children to be capable, autonomous and independent? What knowledge should be used to make students autonomous and independent? It is this knowledge that is formulated by capacity pedagogy, ”he replies. Before adding that: “The school must be able to lead the children in this direction”.

André Déazon is a retired teacher-researcher. He worked at the Institute for Research, Teaching and Experimentation in Pedagogy at the Human and Social Sciences Ufr at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny University. He holds a 3rd cycle doctorate in computer science applied to educational sciences obtained at the Free University of Brussels in Belgium. He also holds a unique doctoral thesis in indicametry. He has several books to his credit, including “Capacitance pedagogy: the pedagogical science required by education” published in Abidjan by the University of Côte d’Ivoire (Educi) in 2016.

Note that the conference was organized around the theme: “The challenge of education in Côte d’Ivoire”.
