Karliczek calls for vaccination timetable for schoolchildren
Federal Minister of Education Anja Karliczek (CDU) demands a vaccination schedule for young people from the age of 12 from the federal states. The aim must be to make this age group an offer for a corona vaccination by the beginning of the next school year, Karliczek told the newspapers of the “Funke Mediengruppe”. That would be helpful so that after the summer holidays school operations could start relatively normally again everywhere. According to the minister, the federal and state vaccination summit will deal with the issue on Thursday.

Lower Saxony’s election supervisor: Bundestag election also possible as ballot box
Despite the corona pandemic, the upcoming local and federal elections in Lower Saxony in September can probably also take place in attendance. At the moment it is not clear that an election in voting booths is not feasible, explained the office of the state election officer Ulrike Sachs. Both the state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg and the local elections in Hesse had shown in the spring that the election booth had to go is possible. In Lower Saxony, too, there have been direct elections as a ballot box since the beginning of the pandemic. It is conceivable, however, that there will be a boom in postal voting. This also depends on the further course of the pandemic and the progress of vaccination. “A noticeable increase can be expected, especially since the trend towards postal voting has already intensified in the last elections even without a pandemic,” said Sachs.

2,682 new corona cases nationwide
The health authorities in Germany reported 2,682 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute within one day. That is about half as many cases as a week ago when 5,412 were registered. The RKI currently gives the nationwide seven-day incidence as 62.5 (previous day: 64.5; previous week: 83.1). However, the numbers are only partially meaningful. There is generally less testing on Sundays and public holidays. Therefore, less positive cases are reported.
06:40 am
24 new corona cases registered in Schleswig-Holstein
In Schleswig-Holstein only 24 new infections with the corona virus have been officially registered. The day before it was 109, on the Monday a week ago 66. One reason for the low number could, however, be the Whitsun holidays. The seven-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants fell in Schleswig-Holstein to 30.3, as the Ministry of Health in Kiel reported. The regions with the highest incidence in SH are the cities of Kiel (43.8) and Neumünster (43.6). The values are lowest in Flensburg (5.5) and in the Schleswig-Flensburg district (8.5).
