Supermarket chain Delhaize is plagued by empty shelves after “technical incidents” in the logistics department. “We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”

Anyone who goes to a store of the Delhaize chain for coffee, biscuits, chips, chocolate and all kinds of breakfast cereals risks walking out with an empty shopping cart.
“There were technical logistical problems at the beginning of this month,” said Delhaize spokesperson Roel Dekelver. “As a result, there is currently a shortage of products in some of our stores, such as indeed biscuits, coffee, cereals or chips.” On social media, photos make the rounds of meters on almost empty shelves, as if people have started hoarding en masse again.
Delhaize – which explicitly wants to apologize for the problems to its customers – expects the shelves to be sufficiently replenished within two weeks. “In view of the delivery problems we have encountered, it takes a while to bring the stocks of these various products back to normal levels.”
