I Måneskin won the Eurovision Song Contest

The Italian group Måneskin won the 2021 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest – ESC, the largest music competition in the world – with the song Shut up and Good. The Måneskin won by obtaining 524 points, of which 318 received from televoting, decisive to overcome the French Barbara Pravi, who finished second with the song here and 499 points, and the Swiss Gjon’s Tears, finished third with the song The whole universe and 432 points.

The Måneskin were among the favorites of the competition but their victory came to the last, due to the double voting system of the ESC, which first involves the vote of the National Juries of all participating countries and then the televoting of the public, app or sms. After the vote of the juries, the Måneskin were only fourth, but they reversed the situation thanks to the vote of the public, which was decisive.

After the announcement of the victory, during the celebrations, Damiano, the singer and leader of the group, took the microphone and shouted “Rock’n’roll never dies!”. During the press conference following the event, members of the group said they were happy to have won the victory for Italy, especially after the very tough year of the coronavirus pandemic.

It is the third time that Italy has won the ESC, the first in 31 years. Before the Måneskin, only Gigliola Cinquetti in 1964 and Toto Cutugno in 1990 had won.
