Missing Flemish student (21) found dead in Swiss Alps after ‘quarrel’ | Abroad

The family informed the Belgian authorities of the body’s discovery. The local police in Switzerland confirms the tragic news to the editors of Nieuwsblad.

The student at the teacher training college Howest wanted to take a break between studying for her exams, and had agreed with some friends from Ypres who had already traveled to Switzerland and rented a chalet there.

After arriving at the chalet on Monday evening, however, things went wrong. She had an argument with her friends and left the chalet during the night. Without bringing her cell phone or other personal items. On Tuesday morning, friends informed Sarah’s family of the disappearance. Her two brothers and father immediately traveled to Switzerland to help in the search.

Since then, the young woman has been searched for with all the might, including by the Swiss police and the army. The family announced on Saturday afternoon that her body was found lifeless in a river close to the chalet where she disappeared.

It is not yet clear in what circumstances the victim was found and what the cause of death would be. The Swiss police have announced that an autopsy will be carried out on the body.
