The new super rehabilitation department at the Verduno hospital looks like a fitness center

The treadmills, bikes and ellipticals are by Tecnogym, the D-Wall digital mirrors, the Walker View system and the Prokin balance rehabilitation system are instead of TecnoBody. It seems to be in an exclusive fitness center, or in a trendy gym, overlooking the Monviso. Instead, we are in the new Rehabilitation and Functional Recovery department of the Michele Ferrero hospital in Verduno and these cutting-edge machines will be available to everyone, without the need for cards or subscriptions.

“Until three days ago, in these spaces there were still 13 beds for Covid patients – says Dr. Giancarlo Rando, just confirmed head of the department where he has worked since 1999 -. Now we can finally start a new season of physiotherapy in the Asl Cn2, with the aim of making patients return to daily normality in the best possible way and in the shortest possible time ».

There is no shortage of space: 1500 square meters, 4 state-of-the-art gyms, clinics and changing rooms where a day hospital activity will be guaranteed transversal to all pathologies and medical and surgical disciplines: from neuro-degenerative diseases to traumatology, from post cardiological rehabilitation heart attack at the post Covid one. The structure can count on the work of 6 doctors and 48 physiotherapists and speech therapists, who also take care of the various activities in the wards and on the territory, in the health houses of Alba, Bra and Canale or at home. “With these new equipment – explains Dr. Rando – we will have the opportunity to use the best technology to start faster and more effective rehabilitation cycles”.

In some areas, the department stands as a regional excellence: “We are a reference center for patients with primary and secondary lymphodema, as well as for the prevention and treatment of urinary incontinence”. Another flagship is the Fast Track Eras, that is the approach that allows to improve the postoperative course, with a faster and more beneficial recovery and a significant decrease in hospitalization times.

“Medicine is constantly evolving and modern physiatry has an increasingly interdisciplinary and personalized approach, able to act also in prevention and with pre-operative therapies” underline the director general of Asl Cn2, Massimo Veglio, and the health director , Mario Traina. “Among the next objectives, there is that of expanding the functions of the department by activating some rehabilitative inpatient beds, if the Region gives us the green light”. And then create a rehabilitation garden, a sort of outdoor gym using the large spaces of the Verduno hospital, in line with the “healing gardens” project.
