The option for Instagram app users’ pronouns is now available.
Pronoms : He/him (il), she/her (elle), they/them (iel)
On his profile Instagram, the subscriber is now free to display the pronoun of her choice, separately from the gender assigned to her at birth. On the social network, the choice for the different pronouns is now available:: he / him (il), she / her (elle), they / them (iel).
The neo-pronouns for transgender or non-binary people are also available there: xe / xem or ve / ver. On the French version of Instagram, for now, only English pronouns are available, reports 20 Minutes.
“With this tool, we hope to standardize this practice a little more”
A spokesperson for Facebook, owner of Instagram, said that: “Share his pronoun has been widely adopted by our users “. He then added that: “With this tool, we hope to standardize this practice a bit more.” The manager also pointed out that the social network is “open to feedback from our community if we ever missed any that should be included.”
In the United States, the use of neutral pronouns They / them (iel) is more and more popular. These are pronouns to denote non-binary people, whose gender identity does not fit into the norm, because they do not identify as either male or female.
