PvdA members are given some choice when it comes to new chairman. After campaign strategist Pieter Paul Slikker, party leader in Den Bosch, Gerard Bosman has also applied.
Bosman is known as a left winger of the PvdA. During the second Rutte cabinet of VVD and PvdA, he was a persistent critic of the course of then party leader Diederik Samsom. Bosman is co-founder and board of Linksom !, an action group within the PvdA that tries to shift the course of the party to the left.
In a press release, Bosman writes that he wants the PvdA to focus on a left-wing minority cabinet with at least GroenLinks and the SP. He “cannot imagine the PvdA participating in a cabinet led by Rutte”.
Preselection
Incidentally, the PvdA members will only elect their new chairman after the summer, when the cabinet formation is probably already over. The term of the current chairman expires in October, Nelleke Vedelaar.
Bosman made an attempt to become the party leader for the parliamentary elections in 2016, but he did not pass the pre-selection of the party board.
