A Ladybug motorhome sold for $ 19,800 in the USA

In the early 1970s, an American company launched an atypical Volkswagen Beetle Camper. A cell was installed on the famous model of the German brand to make a mini-camper. Very rare, a 1969 copy has just been sold in the United States.

Between the Beetle and the Combi, Volkswagen has always been popular with collectors. Westfalia sell for a high price, and Beettle are highly sought after around the world. And in particular the Super Bugger Camper, made by a Californian company in the late 1960s and early 1970s. A very rare ladybug with a camper van body. At the time, it was sold turnkey or in kits. Plans also circulated in the 1970s for DIY enthusiasts to fit out their own cars.

A first-hand vehicle

An original 1969 model was bought at auction for $ 19,800 (over € 16,000) on May 15, 2021, on a vintage car sales site in the United States. An extremely rare sale, especially for a first hand. Surprisingly, it has always been owned by the same owner. If the engine was changed in 1973, the interior is original, with rococo carpet on the floor and storage units in laminated wood. It even has a kitchenette at the back, with gas hobs, sink and extractor hood, which can exit to the outside thanks to a hatch on the side.

Not sure the buyer is going on vacation with it. Because this mini motorhome does not offer optimal comfort despite its two seats. But at least he will be able to show it proudly in the gatherings of Beetle or vintage cars.
