Free to go on picnics after vaccination, is it safe?

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

After receiving the Covid-19 vaccine, many people begin to feel confident traveling because they feel protected.

Going on a picnic to the playground, the beach, or going out in the open is the choice for people to spend their time. However, is it safe to go on a picnic after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine?

The Covid-19 Task Force’s New Habit Adaptation Ambassador, Doctor Reisa Broto Asmoro said, there is no guarantee that you will be 100 percent protected from the virus even though you have received the Covid-19 vaccine. This means that there is no guarantee of safety to go on a picnic, even if you have received two doses of the vaccine.

“Even though we have been vaccinated, it does not mean that we are 100 percent protected, so there is no guarantee of safety even though we have received the Covid-19 vaccine,” Reisa said in a virtual discussion, Friday (21/5).

Reisa also emphasized the importance of prevention efforts even though he had received Covid-19 vaccination. Prevention measures such as wearing masks, obeying the rules of guarding distance, and washing hands frequently with soap.

In line with Reisa, Lung Specialist Erlina Burhan also said there was no activity that could guarantee the safety of Covid-19 infection, even though she had received two doses of vaccine.

The reason is, people who have received the Covid-19 vaccine can still transmit the virus and become infected.

Erlina explained, the body of someone who has received the vaccine does have antibodies that can fight the virus. However, when the person ignores health protocols, then walks in a crowd, then there is a possibility that the virus will enter the body. Antibodies that are continuously attacked by the corona virus can weaken and eventually become sick.

“Vaccines will cause immunity, but if you have already been hit [virus] continuously, yes the antibody troops can get tired and can become exposed to Covid-19, “said Erlina.

“So after being vaccinated against Covid-19 there is still the possibility of contracting and transmitting it, there is no word that it is actually safe, everyone must continue to enforce health protocols even though they have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine,” he said.
