Andrei Sakharov, known as a Soviet physicist and political dissident, would have turned 100 this year. Initially known as the inventor of the Soviet hydrogen bomb, Andrei Sakharov later led a relentless fight against social injustice, advocated the release of dissidents in his country and became one of the regime’s harshest critics.
