A young man arrested in Ourense for cheating more than 8,000 euros with the ‘Microsoft scam’

Agents of the Technological Crimes Group of Ourense have arrested a 20-year-old young man for his alleged involvement in a crime of fraud of more than 8,000 euros through what is known as ‘Microsoft scam’.

As reported by the National Police, on January 8 a person in Estepona reported that he received a phone call in which the interlocutor claimed to be a Microsoft technician and that they had detected a fraudulent intrusion into his bank account, asking him to follow his instructions to guarantee the safety of it.

“This person asked him to install a program on his computer, whose real function is to serve as remote access to it, thus giving, without knowing it, absolute control of the terminal to that person,” said the Police.

Shortly afterwards, the victim received a notice from his bank that indicated that “suspicious transactions” had been detected in his account. The victim verified that in a short time they had made up to nine transfers from his bank account for an amount greater than 8,000 euros.

From the investigations carried out in collaboration with the Estepona Police Station (Malaga), a person was arrested in Ourense this Thursday, May 20, who would have received the reported amount of about 8,000 euros in his bank account.

Once this man was arrested, a 20-year-old citizen of Brazilian nationality residing in the city of Ourense was released after giving a statement at the police station.
