New York. After a corona-related break, music will return to the New York subway from the beginning of June. The “Music Under New York” program will resume on June 4th, representatives of the MTA announced on Thursday. Mask, hygiene and distance rules largely continue to apply to musicians, and they are also advised to get vaccinated.
Among musicians, the New York subway, which is officially only allowed to perform with the “Music Under New York” program, is a very popular concert venue: the millions of people who travel annually on the New York subways and suburban trains, are potential spectators, explorers and donors.
Hundreds of musicians and bands apply every year for the coveted performance permits – and then have to prove themselves to a jury. The total of around 350 bands and musicians in the program complete around 7500 railroad performances each year.
