Lima.-. adidas seeks to harness the power of sport as a force for change, inviting the world to join and participate in the fourth edition of Run for the Oceans, continuing its commitment to urgently address the devastating levels of marine plastic pollution in the oceans .
Since 2015, adidas has made more than 30 million pairs of shoes using Parley Ocean Plastic, plastic waste intercepted from beaches and coastal communities to prevent it from polluting the oceans. However, despite progress towards a more sustainable future, there is still work to be done in reducing marine plastic pollution.
For this reason, and empowering runners around the world to make a difference, for every kilometer traveled between May 28 and June 8, World Oceans Day, people will be able to run to donate kilometers and collaborate to save to the planet of pollution, through the adidas Running application. adidas and Parley will clean the equivalent to the weight of 10 plastic bottles for every kilometer traveled, and up to a maximum of 227 thousand kilos of marine plastic waste on beaches, remote islands and coasts.

It is our responsibility to use our platforms, products and voices not only to raise awareness, but to implement actions with real effects. In just three decades, the world’s oceans could contain more discarded plastic than fish if we don’t act now. To date, adidas x Parley Run for the Oceans has brought together more than 3 million runners around the world, collectively logging up to 25.5 million kilometers and raising $ 2.5 million to help Parley develop its initiatives and programs. educational in the fight against marine plastic pollution. In 2019, 92 schools enrolled in the program and are now education centers and plastic recovery points for the local community. As a result, 70,000 children and their families participated in the program.
But this is just the beginning for the global initiative. As announced as part of adidas’s ‘Own the Game’ strategy, unveiled in March this year, Run For The Oceans will further expand to create a more inclusive digital and physical community space. By 2025, adidas aims to achieve a cumulative participation of 40 million people.
