The winner of Eurovision 2019 is infected with Covid-19

Dutch singer Duncan Lawrence, winner of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest, is infected with Covid-19 and will not be able to perform in person at this year’s Eurovision show in Rotterdam due to at least a week of quarantine.

Lawrence, 27, has mild symptoms and will “take part in the show in a different way,” Eurovision organizers said.

Lawrence was scheduled to present a new song in the final of the competition in Rotterdam on Saturday.

On Wednesday, the Icelandic group Dadi og Gagnamagnid announced that one of its members had a positive Covid-19 test. As a result, the band is now quarantined and a video of the rehearsal will be used in Thursday’s second semifinal.

The Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam takes place in the presence of spectators. The number of spectators has been reduced by half the usual number and they will have to show proof of a negative Covid-19 test. The Dutch government has previously announced that Eurovision will become part of the Fieldlab project, which is exploring the possibility of safe events during a pandemic.

39 countries will take part in the 65th International Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The final, which will feature 26 songs, will take place on May 22.

Latvia is represented by singer Samanta Tīna with the song “The Moon Is Rising”, which tells about a woman’s strength and invitation to everyone to be aware of their own value and beauty, without submitting to society’s standards and stereotypes.
