Goalkeeper Ondřej Kolář held the Slavia footballers in the final of the home cup in Pilsen with two interventions in the first half and directed them to win 1: 0 and win the trophy.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper admitted that the Prague team did not succeed at all. “At the beginning it didn’t look good for us. We were late everywhere, we didn’t succeed. If we got a goal, I think we would probably have a hard time getting into the match,” Kolář admitted. “It was probably a difference moment that they didn’t change their chances and fortunately we did. It was fought today,” he breathed.
He took the key intervention in the 10th minute against the lone Šimon Falt. “It was hard, the player went to me alone. He could have cleaned it anywhere. I started against him, I stretched as much as possible and reduced the shooting angle. It was already lucky,” Kolář said modestly.
Just before the break, he pulled Lukáš Kalvach’s shot from a direct kick. “It was extremely difficult for me. I thought that Aleš Čermák would play it for me. But he didn’t play it, then I went ahead and fortunately kicked it out with my fingertips,” said the Slavic hero.
In March, Glasgow Rangers striker Kemar Roofe kicked him in the head with a brutal foul, causing a fracture in his face. However, Kolář unexpectedly quickly returned to the poles and won the league title and now the home cup with the Prague team.
“The season is fantastic. It was sad for me to be seriously injured. But paradoxically it strengthened me. Since then, I’m less afraid to be in the gate, I’m not afraid of it. I say to myself that if I survived such a blow, I will survive everything ,” he smiled.
“It’s not so hard to catch with that helmet, it’s worse with a mask. You don’t see much of it peripherally, you have to be on your toes. I’m glad to put the mask down after the season and I’ll only catch in a helmet,” Kolář added.
However, he admitted that he was not yet in perfect condition. “I fell out of it, I don’t feel optimal physically. You can say that I’ve hardly trained since then and I’m just catching matches. I’m looking forward to training and training myself. I’m not very ready. As for the Euro, we’ll see what will be the nomination and how will I be, “said Kolář.
He won the sixth trophy with Slavia. “When we (with the coach) came, we didn’t even hope for this. We came and we lost the first match with Jihlava. The expectations were high and we all disappointed from the beginning,” recalled Kolář, who arrived in Eden in January 2018 from Liberce.
“Then it started to turn around. The coaches brought their players, it started to work and it fit together. Having three titles in a row and three more trophies from the cup is something incredible and I will always remember it,” he said.
They make no secret of the fact that he would like to try his job abroad. “I’m enjoying it in Slavia, I’m excited about it here. There’s probably no reason to leave in that direction. But I think every player has ambitions to try abroad so that he doesn’t regret anything. I’m open to it, but it’s in agreement with the coach and (club boss) Jarda Tvrdík, “said Kolář.
“I owe them a lot. I want to give it back to them and not put a pole in their back, so it won’t be until they’ve agreed. It’s a difficult time when it comes to finances, and Slavia has an idea to get a little more money for me. Some clubs are calling, but it will be agreed that the offer will be interesting for Slavia, “he added.
