“We want to prevent other stations from becoming the target of an explosive attack. The decision was taken jointly with GWK Travelex, the owner of the machines ”, reports NS.

‘Very shocked’

“We are very shocked by what happened in Apeldoorn,” said Anneke de Vries, responsible for stations within the board of directors of NS. “With extra measures, including this temporary closure, we are doing everything we can to prevent another explosion at a station.”

Most of the ATMs that close are on the outside of the terminal buildings. Some are in a different place where it is more difficult to supervise. At many stations it remains possible for travelers to use a machine within the station building. NS and GWK Travelex checks for each machine when and whether it is possible to open it again.

Debris

An explosion at an ATM near the station building in Apeldoorn caused havoc in the night from Sunday to Monday. There was a big hole in the building. There were debris everywhere.
