The district of North Friesland criticizes the lax behavior of some restaurateurs and wants to tighten controls. Especially since many guests are expected in the popular North Sea baths over Whitsun.
According to the district of North Friesland, a total of 20 restaurants on Sylt, Föhr and in St. Peter-Ording should not have been so strict with the Corona rules in recent weeks. You will now – before the weekend of Pentecost – receive mail from the district with the stipulation that only 50 percent of your places will be occupied. In addition, District Administrator Florian Lorenzen (CDU) announced strict controls and receives support from the state.
Waiters without masks and no minimum clearances
According to the chairman of the Sylt Hotel and Restaurant Association, Dirk Erdmann, there are around ten restaurants on Sylt alone that have not adhered to the Corona rules. For example, control teams from the health department had found that people from up to eight households were sitting at the tables. Minimum clearances were also not kept and some waiters did not wear masks. The district administrator criticized that it could not be that a few with their behavior endanger the way back to normality.

More police officers – especially on Sylt
If there were more guests than allowed in restaurants on Whitsun, they would have to leave the restaurant within half an hour, said Lorenzen. Otherwise the location will be closed. “Restaurants are not an unlawful area – not even at Whitsun and not when guests are queuing at the door.” The country is also sending police officers to North Frisia for the controls. According to the district, there will probably be three to four teams for Sylt alone. A total of eleven extra teams are planned in the district.
Two vacationers infected – now hundreds in quarantine
Most recently, a vacationing couple on Sylt ensured that now 300 people are in quarantine. The tourists had tested positive for Corona after their return home. They had been on vacation on the island around May 6th and visited several restaurants, among other things. The Husum health department did not find out about her corona infection until just under a week later and immediately began to follow up on the contacts.
