The “Töss Försterhaus” stop should remain in the structure plan

The city council would like to keep the structure plan entry for an S-Bahn station “Töss Försterhaus” and keep this option open for the future.

The city council wants to have the potential identified in connection with the “Spatial Development Perspective Winterthur 2040” and the expansion plans of the Federal Roads Office in the Töss Süd development area examined in more depth.

The project “More lane Zurich – Winterthur: rail expansion via Brüttenertunnel” to expand the capacity on the SBB route between Zurich and Winterthur is a central element for city-friendly mobility in Winterthur and forms a focus of the 2018–2022 legislative program of the city council.

On May 24, 2018, the synthesis report on the test planning for the Winterthur track area was published, which had been drawn up by SBB and the City of Winterthur in cooperation with the canton. It recommended that the existing structure plan entry for a “Töss Försterhaus” train stop should be dispensed with, among other things because it would be difficult to implement from an operational and structural point of view.

In the meantime, in connection with the development of the “Spatial Development Perspective (REP) Winterthur 2040” and the expansion plans of the Federal Roads Office (Astra) for the motorway, new potential has been identified for the Töss Süd development area. In the next step, the city council intends to have these examined in more depth under the name “Masterplan Winterthur South”.

The city council has therefore decided that the structure plan entry for a “Töss Försterhaus” stop should be retained in order to keep options open in the long term for connecting this district to public transport.

The city council is responding to the postulate regarding the “Töss Försterhaus” S-Bahn station in this way and has expressed itself accordingly in the public edition of the 2020 partial revision of the cantonal structure plan.
