It is a pool for the brave: transparent and 35 meters above the ground, you have to have courage to dive headfirst. The structure, installed between two buildings in London, promises heart-stopping swims.
The pool is a common claim in new real estate developments, of course that few community are as spectacular as this one. The neighbors of two London buildings are the privileged ones, if they dare, who will be able to dive into the air from on Saturday May 22 that this Sky Pool is inaugurated.
This display of fishmongering engineering has been installed as a walkway connecting the rooftops of two 10-story buildings in the London borough of Nine Elms. The residential, called Embassy Gardens hits the mark with a 15-meter-long pool suspended 35 meters above the ground. In fact, the image on the ground watching the bathers crossing from one side to the other is shocking, and it makes one think about the British love of bathing in impossible pools.
In the adventure, because its manufacture and transport has been, three companies have intervened: Hal Architects has been in charge of the design with the structural engineer Eckersley O’Callaghan; Reynolds Polymer Technology was responsible for manufacturing.
The pool that crossed the ocean
One gets an idea of the complexity of the project by knowing that one of the largest cranes in the world, with a load capacity of 750 tons, placed the acrylic structure of the Sky Pool instead. Because the fact that it is made of this transparent material is part of the pool’s design and construction challenge.
The structure, after passing rigorous quality controls in Colorado (United States) last September, traveled to Galveston in Texas where embarked on a three-week trip to the Atlantic until docking in Antwerp (Holland). From there he continued his way to the sky via London and night sailing on the Thames.
Once installed and filled with 148,000 liters of water, is about to open for the neighbors. The property estimates that in a month it will be open as part of a rooftop that promises evenings of fun, as it houses a Sky Deck with a bar and restaurant run by Darby’s Oyster.
In order to those who think twice before diving into nothingness, which is more or less the sensation of bathing in a suspended transparent pool, a walkway has been installed to enjoy the views and the strokes of the bravest.
