I want to be unpopular with my weekly thesis. And I set out to attack. For Milan, accepting the theory of Arrigo Sacchi that he is a true master in this, it is better to focus on a healthy club, capable of climbing the mountain one step at a time, than burdening themselves with debts, becoming unmanageable, unsellable and not being able to enjoy some impromptu football success because then forced, by the crisis and the crowd of creditors, to downsize their ambitions. I say this and I sign it in view of the fate of Sunday evening when it will be known whether Milan will finish fifth and therefore qualified in the Europa League (and this is the prediction foregone having experience of how certain championship junctions go) or fourth and therefore in the Champions League. I understand the setback, the mockery for the audience of fans who had already got used to the jingle of the Champions League, but I repeat my point of view. Milan currently, from a financial point of view, is put as follows: 1) honored salaries; 2) consolidated debts of just over 100 million, most of which securitized, that is, they discounted the bills in the bank for cash advances but are credits collected in advance to understand each other; 3) the balance sheet as at 30 June will close with a loss by half compared to the previous one of 190 million. It is a healthy club, in a nutshell. To whom the money of the Champions can make the market richer but it will not change his next life.
Contracts. To be frank, I also delve into the treacherous terrain of contracts to be renewed. Donnarumma: 8 million is a huge figure for covid times and for the value of the Italian championship. If he does not sign and migrate to Turin (as they have been saying for months) I believe that it should not be a tragedy. For these reasons: 1) because he let Raiola treat him as a puppet, 2) because the famous phrases about Milan’s love were all jokes; 3) because it is proven that a goalkeeper of his level can help you but is not as decisive as a goal scorer. Finding a goalkeeper who is worth a 3rd, 4th place team is not that expensive or complicated. Not only that: but getting rid of Raiola would mean gaining freedom of action for the future. Calhanoglu: his press officer says he has an 8 million contract in Qatar ready. Let him sit down immediately because the facts, that is the championship, have shown that he is not worth that money and perhaps not even the salary proposed by Milan (4 million plus bonus). He scores few goals, in the matches that count he has never seen, he is a good player and that’s it.
Shopping. I see a couple of names circulating for the next attack. The first: Giroud as deputy Ibra. It might come in handy but being 36 in September it seems to me that it is not really for the case. In recent weeks he would have been precious in place of Manduzukic, whose signing was one of the pivotal mistakes of the season. From here to the next few years, with Ibra in his 40s, it is appropriate to focus on some strikers of lesser age and greater technical depth. I know the objection: it would cost too much. Maybe waiting for the end of the market some good opportunities can emerge as no one is going to spend. The other name is the young Adlì. I do not know him and I do not pronounce myself. I make only two observations. The first: he should take over from Castillejo who was another flop. The second: is it possible that the AC Milan observers draw punctually in France?
