Chelsea ‘claim’ striker as Inter Milan star Romelu Lukaku as Tammy Abraham set to thrive at Crystal Palace

Chelsea “claim” a striker like Romelu Lukaku, according to Charlie Austin.

Lukaku, who joined the Blues for £ 18million from Anderlecht in 2011, only played for the club 15 times before being sold to Everton three years later.

Lukaku rediscovered his scoring touch in Italy

He has since grown into one of Europe’s most prolific strikers after successful stints with the Toffees, Manchester United and currently Inter Milan.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more goals (29) than Lukaku (23) in Serie A this season, the latter having helped Inter win their first top Italian title in 11 years.

And West Brom forward Austin insists Lukaku would be a brilliant signing for Chelsea, who are said to be looking for a striker with Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud likely to leave this summer.

He told Wednesday’s talkSPORT Breakfast: “Lukaku fits the mold for what Chelsea are asking for, doesn’t he?

“He left, he won Serie A, he scored goals, after goals, after goals.

“He might think, ‘I’ll come back to England now, I was part of Chelsea at the start, I feel like I can come back and try well.’

“He’s a top player. He left Man United and it was a crazy decision on their part to let him go. It was a big loss for Man United.

“He would be brilliant for the Premier League and Chelsea.”

Abraham looks in excess of Chelsea’s needs

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has chosen to play Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Giroud ahead of Abraham, who has not started a game since he was hooked against Southampton at halftime on February 20.

Reports have claimed the Blues will listen to offers of £ 40million for the England international this summer.

And Austin believes Crystal Palace, which could be run by Abraham’s former Frank Lampard, would be an ideal choice for the 23-year-old.

He said, “Tammy Abraham would go and be the lead man.

“He would probably thrive for a team like Palace. There wouldn’t be too many expectations.

“He can go and score double-digit goals and it’s difficult in the Premier League.

“But the demand is not always there like in Chelsea. If you don’t play, you get scrutinized. This is what is happening to Timo Werner now.
