First day of partial reopening for cafes and restaurants. In Caen (Calvados), the terraces were out and customers flocked to them as soon as possible. A way to find a little of the “life before” the Covid-19.
Rather coffee or hot chocolate? Gabin has made his choice. This Caen high school student did not have class this Wednesday morning. He therefore settled quietly on the terrace of the Les Touristes bar, in the city center. He confirms that hot chocolate on the terrace has nothing to do with it with the Nesquik at home: “It’s not the same atmosphere, here it’s alive. The house has been seeing it for a year now, now we know it by heart, we could do a hide-and-seek there, while there we are rediscovering life !”

For the heads of establishments, it was the baptism of fire. Jean-Marie Boisguérin, owner of the Café de Caen, apprehends this first day like an athlete resuming competition. “We have been training for a week, we have restarted the establishment, the kitchen and we have already imposed a rigor, made small training sessions to remember everything we knew how to do well before closing time”, he says.

Many customers lined up this Wednesday in front of some stores in downtown Caen. They were around forty clients in front of Zara from 10 am. For the pleasure of shopping, but also out of necessity. “With the confinement, we have put on weight, so there are things that I cannot put back!”, explains Sonia.
