Scales is a digital platform that allows the African diaspora around the world to easily take out health insurance for their loved ones in Africa.
« Izikare provides electronic and physical insurance card for your loved ones who are in Africa. This offers them the possibility of being treated without advancing money when they are sick, by having access to a network of health professionals with whom we are partners, in hospitals, laboratories, clinics, pharmacies, but also opticians », Explains the founder of the company, Bertrand Nkengne.
Depending on the level of the formula chosen by the subscriber, the beneficiary may be covered between 80% and 100% thanks to Izikare. Diaspora health insurance subscription plans start at € 0.5 per day.
100% digital health insurance
For his health insurance, Scales offers a fully digital service via a web and mobile application.
The subscription is done online in less than three minutes, each person can then indicate the different beneficiaries before making their payment on the website by direct debit, by bank card, or by “mobile currency”.
Family members will be able to download the application to obtain their health insurance card. They will also be able to geolocate the health practitioners closest to them, and make an appointment directly from the Izikare platform.
Democratizing access to medical care in Africa
Already present in nine countries on the African continent (Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, Niger, Morocco) Izikare wishes to democratize access to health insurance.
« Today, the insurance penetration rate in African countries south of the Sahara is less than 5%. To open this service to as many people as possible, we wanted to develop an easy-to-use digital tool that facilitates the customer journey ”.
More than just health insurance, the project led by Izikare has a societal objective: that of making health care accessible to as many people as possible. ” We know that health care is a fundamental building block for sustainable, equitable, and inclusive development. Our goal is therefore to facilitate access and financing of healthcare in Africa. ».
Future fundraising to continue development
Described as innovative and disruptive by many observers, the project led by Izikare has attracted major partners such as the HEC Paris school and its incubator, Station F, or the Public Investment Bank (BPI).
« Our partners considered that this disruptive and innovative project had a strong social impact and made it possible very concretely to improve the social gradient of populations in Africa; that’s why they decided to support us and trust us! “.
Izikare now wishes to open its offer to new African countries. The company will launch in the coming weeks a fundraising to finance the extension of its social and solidarity project.
