Karaguatá, the coastal rock band born in Corrientes, premiered “El Mensú”, a folk rock version of Ramón Ayala’s song. The single is available on Spotify and on the band’s official channel on YouTube, with a soon release of its video clip on social networks.
“El Mensú” is a Latin American protest song published in the 70s for the whole world, it is one of the themes that makes Ramón Ayala, the last Latin American poet, great. For Karaguatá, a coastal rock band, it is revisiting a theme that is sadly still in force and at the same time is coherent with the themes addressed by the Corrientes band, whose criticism of the songs never ceases to be present on their album “First Stadium.
This version, conceived three years ago in tune with the first songs of the Corrientes band, was inspired by the version of the same song by the duo Baglietto-Vitale, included in the album “Postales del alma”, winner of the Latin Grammy Award as “Best Tango Album”.
In 2019 it was rescued and recorded during a live session of the band at Pu Rec studios in Formosa. “The song has furious, dark rock passages, and it is combined with the color of the songs that are coming and that are part of our next album, very much in line with reality,” says Ariel Alegre, guitarist and composer from Karaguatá.
The validity and the quota of faith is provided by the author, in sync with the intention of the songs of the Corrientes band. “My north has always been hope, so I am sure that this difficult moment for humanity will pass,” Ayala said in April, on his 94th birthday.
“El Mensú” by Karaguatá was recorded at Pu Record Estudio in the city of Formosa, with Agustín Monzón on accordion, a technical operation by José Buzzo; mixed by Bruno Serial and mastered by Carlos Ritcher. The cover art is by Ramiro Noguera, also the band’s vocalist. On keyboards, Erlin Gómez; electric guitar, Ariel Alegre; Lucho Gómez Barcellos on drums, Matías Melgarejo on percussion and Nicolás Lezcano on bass.
