Lakers in the play-in tournament: Anthony Davis warns against curry

Although the Los Angeles Lakers are going into the postseason with the NBA’s # 1 defense, the reigning champion has a good deal of respect for Stephen Curry. LeBron James last referred to the Warriors star as the 2020/21 MVP and Anthony Davis also warned in a media round before the play-in-game before the regular season scoring champ.

“We know who the snake’s head is, that’s Steph,” Davis said after a training session on Tuesday. “We have to do our best to control him. That takes good teamwork, not just pressure from the guards. We have to make sure we keep an eye on him and deal with him at all times.”

The Splash Brother led the Warriors in the regular season with an average of 32.0 points at 48.2 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from downtown almost single-handedly in eighth place in the Western Conference. The Dubs have won eight of the past nine games, and in May Curry even scored 36.8 points per game.

“He’s the best shooter who has ever played this game,” said Dennis Schröder, who, together with Alex Caruso and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, will probably do most of the defensive work against Curry, full of praise. “Every throw, whatever comes after the middle line, is a good throw for him. You have to make it as hard as possible for him and limit his threesomes.”

Meanwhile, Warriors coach Steve Kerr expects the Lakers to throw everything they have at Curry on defense. “Multiple defenders, different matchups, blitzes … that kind of thing. You’ll be his shadow,” Kerr said. “Steph has already seen everything. Draymond (Green, editor’s note) is probably the key, with his screens and dribble handoffs he will have the right answer.”

In the three previous duels in the season, LA kept the point guard at 23 points per game and a 42.3 percent field throw rate.

Lakers star Dennis Schröder: “Try to get my stamina back”

Dennis Schröder has admitted that he had not yet reached his physical condition before his forced Corona break. The Braunschweig player had recently missed seven games because he was included in the NBA’s corona protocol. The days off would have been good for him, but at the same time he is now trying to “get back the condition that I had during the season,” said Schröder.

DS17 emphasized that he felt “great” on the court, “but I haven’t played for ten days. Of course, my stamina is a bit behind.” After his return, Schröder received around 27 minutes of playing time in the last two games of the regular season and placed 14 and 12 points respectively.

“During the season we played every other day, so my condition was at a top level,” added Schröder. “If you have to take ten days off, it’s not the same afterwards. But I’ll just try to get back to that level.”
