Defense Attache (Athan) China is preparing to help the Indonesian military to carry out ship appointments KRI Nanggala 402 which has been submerged in Balinese waters since late April.
“Currently, our ship’s task has shifted from the observation stage to the appointment stage,” said China’s Defense Attaché, Senior Commander Chen Yongjin in a press conference, Tuesday (18/5).
He said the process of lifting ships from under the sea was a complicated issue. This is not only happening in Indonesia but also throughout the world.
Therefore, he said, his party will make full efforts in helping the Indonesian military lift the body of the sunken KRI Nanggala.
Chen explained that his party had carried out dozens of underwater operations so far as a form of observation and tracking.
“Divers have performed 13 operations under the sea,” he added.
There are at least three ships belonging to China that are deployed to assist the submarine rescue operation. The ships in question are the PRC Navy Ship Ocean Tug Nantuo 195, PRC Navy Ocean Salvage & Rescue Yong Xing Dao 863, and the Tan Suo 2 Research ship belonging to the Chinese academy of science.
All findings obtained were immediately submitted to the Indonesian Navy. Including the liferaft or KRI Nanggala-402 safety tool that has been found.
On the same occasion, the Commander of the Armada II Command (Pangkormada II), Rear Admiral TNI Iwan Isnurwanto said that the evacuation process was targeted to be completed on May 26, 2021.
Intensive communication is still being made regarding the level of difficulty in the appointment. He said that the Chinese army also requested that the evacuation process be completed by the end of May.
“Approximately 2-3 days with 3 days to spare five days. Then the 18th, could it be the 26th is the deadline for this operation,” said Iwan.
Iwan also explained about the difficulties his party had in lifting the bodies of the crew of the KRI Nanggala-402 ship. He suspected that the bodies were difficult to find because the bodies of the crew members were in the pressure body of the ship which had not been found.
It is known, the current position of the pressure body is predicted to be in a crater that was found not far from the parts of the other sunken ship.
“Earlier you were told whether the personnel were there, with no finding of the crew, it was possible that they were there, where? Maybe in the press agency,” said Iwan.
