IVIA tests fungicides for pears and apples against persimmon fungus

This is how the IVIA technician Antonio Vicent explained it yesterday in one of the presentations of the persimmon technical conference that, organized by AVA, brought together experts in matters such as efficient irrigation, fertilization and, above all, pest control in Alginet and diseases that are causing serious problems for farmers due to phytosanitary restrictions.

Vicent addressed the problem of the fungus in a talk entitled “Control of persimmon leaf spot. Current situation in the face of resistance to fungicides ”and announced that the results of the studies that are being carried out will be known this year and will serve to design the strategy for the next campaign. The technician defended that if farmers follow the recommendations to combat the fungus with the products that this year still have at their disposal, there is no reason to have problems keeping this pest under control, despite the fact that resistance has spread throughout the production area. of persimmon and, facing next year, he announced that trials are being carried out together with Plant Health to introduce a series of fungicides that are already being used with pear or apple. Antonio Vicent indicated that these crops have similar diseases, among which he mentioned mottling, and pointed out that the objective of the trials that are being carried out is “to demonstrate that these products are effective in treating the disease.”

Antonio Vicent pointed out that a follow-up has been carried out since the resistant strains were detected in the Alzira, Benimuslem, Guadassuar and Massalavés plots in 2019. Farmers had expressed their concern as, starting next year, the range of products that can be used to combat this fungus that causes defoliation of the tree and accelerated fruit ripening will be further reduced. The technician valued within normality that these resistances are generated.
