Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak talks about Messi, Ronaldo, his favorite defenders and his personal future.
The Slovenian national goalkeeper Jan Oblak from Atletico Madrid has a conversation with Goal and SPOX raved about his long-time rivals Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus, formerly Real Madrid) and Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona).
When asked about his ideal five-man team, the 28-year-old said: “It’s difficult, but I’ve always said about Messi: he’s spectacular and at the highest level. For me he’s the best.”
“I would also vote for Cristiano (Ronaldo, Red’s note) because he shaped an era with Messi. You can just admire what they have done for football,” Oblak continued.
He couldn’t make a final decision with regard to the five-man team, however, as he would actually nominate “as many defenders as possible” as a goalkeeper – he named his (former) teammates Stefan Savic, Jose Maria Gimenez, Diego Godin and Felipe in particular.
Jan Oblak: “The Premier League is an interesting league”
In addition, the keeper also spoke about his personal future. He is contractually bound to Atletico until 2023, but does he see himself with another club in the future?
“Difficult to say. The Premier League is an interesting league, but I don’t know what’s going to happen. Basically, I like challenges, but I’ve been with Atletico for seven years and I’m very happy here,” said Oblak.
Atletico’s season finale in the Spanish league is on Saturday: With a win against Real Valladolid (6 p.m. in LIVE-TICKER) the Rojiblancos could crown themselves champions – for Oblak it would be the first La Liga title of his career.
