About reasons and passions
CYears ago a certain politician asserted that the people do not enjoy that intelligence that a priori is supposed to be, that they move by passions without paying attention to reasons or deep analysis and that it is easily manageable if one acts on the appropriate springs.
When several decades have passed since that statement, it can be easily verified that it is not only true but that it can be applied to all layers and social strata.
The taxi sector is a clear exponent and a formidable testing ground for those who like to study that statement.
In recent days there is a certain commotion, a general and generalized resentment inside the taxi as a result of a meeting (the first and not the last) of the representatives of the Elite Txi Barcelona association with the well-known enemy UBER.
The simple announcement of the meeting triggered the alarms at all levels and provoked the traditional race of some to defend a space to speak -the least- and of others to distance themselves from everything that had a whiff of ELITE BCN, its current spokesperson Tito Álvarez and by extension to anyone who today maintains any contact with that association.
«UBER is the enemy», «with UBER you do not have to meet at all», «with UBER no», «ELITE BCN betrays the taxi» … These are expressions that make up the salad with which the detractors not only of UBER have been dispatched , but from the current Board of Directors of ELITE TAXI BCN.
There are very few who have breathed twice before releasing their fingers on the keyboard and throwing left and right over the social media ecosystem.
It also seems that there are very few who have enough memory to look back a few years and remember that it was precisely Elite Taxi BCN who put the multinational company in solfa, who mobilized the Barcelona taxi collective and who managed to stop the initial claims of the American.
Today, almost 7 years later and with several skirmishes behind them, Elite Taxi was called by UBER to sit down to exchange impressions.
It is not new that UBER has already flirted with the taxi in the past, –the numbers did not come out before nor do they come out now with the pandemic– although no one has said this mouth is mine or has mounted numbers. Silence has been kept when individual taxi drivers have promoted small attempts to join.
It is easier to look the other way when taxi drivers do it and on the other hand it is more motivating to tear your clothes and attack Elite Taxi BCN.
At the moment we don’t have anything solid to objectively judge such a meeting, but it doesn’t matter. It is important to become the purist, the crystalline, the spotless and without blemish in front of the “bad and traitor”.
The problem is not that Elite Taxi BCN feels with UBER, the problem is that we have not learned anything.
We have not learned that the goal of UBER is not blurred or altered by shouting on social networks, we have not learned that each taxi driver is a world with its intricacies and darkness, with its lights and shadows, we have not learned to understand the reasons that move the taxi driver to surrender into the arms of multinationals and, ultimately, we have not learned to reason but to hide behind topics and mantras while the giant gets into the house and not because of Elite Taxi BCN.
