The city of Darmstadt invites you to a public online symposium and a discussion about street names.

The city of Darmstadt invites you to a public online symposium and a discussion about street names. According to the announcement, the date of the event is Tuesday, June 1st, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“It is not an easy task to rename street names that have been around for decades and to which the citizens have become accustomed, so the participation of the population is very important to us,” says Mayor Jochen Partsch (Greens). Against the background of the renaming of eight streets in May 2019, according to the magistrate, events were planned last year, but these were canceled due to the pandemic.

At the event on Tuesday, Professor Rainer Pöppinghege from the University of Paderborn will speak on the subject of “Nothing more important to do? Street names in the public debate ”. Further lectures by experts on street names in Darmstadt, Oldenburg, Mainz and Hanover will follow. The conclusion is a lecture by the Darmstadt sociology professor Sybille Frank.

From October 5th to 29th, the exhibition “Streitsache Strasseennamen” will be shown in the Liebighaus, and on October 7th another information event will take place at the same location. jon

The symposium on June 1st will be broadcast via Webex. Those interested have to register by May 28; [email protected]
