The next Mac Pro 2022 with Intel or Apple Silicon?

If Apple wants its entire Mac range to be equipped with the Apple Silicon chip before 2023, the next Mac Pro could make it one last visit to Intel. Or not, according to information contradictory appearances a few minutes apart.

Mac Pro: a last trip to Intel?

As we have been repeating for several months, Apple has embarked on its transition to its in-house chip called Apple Silicon, which is supposed to replace all Intel processors by the end of 2022. A more than radical change that began in winter last on MacBook and Mac mini.

However, despite this statement, there remains one particular product the future of which is still debated and it is the Mac Pro. As its name suggests, this machine intended above all for professionals, the latest version of which was released in 2019, should obviously have the right to an update in the coming months.

But as some sources reported a few months ago, this model could still be equipped with an Intel chip instead of an Apple Silicon. Better yet, the latest macOS Big Sur 11.4 Release Candidate refers to a 10-core Intel i9 processor.

As a reminder, this product is very special compared to others because it is used by “high-end” professionals on software and for treatments that few people use on a daily basis.

And a Mac Pro M2 also planned?

But it is not finished. While it therefore does not seem completely far-fetched that the future Mac Pro will again be equipped with an Intel processor given that everything is running perfectly at the moment, Bloomberg indicates that Apple is working on an updated model of its Mac Pro which could feature a homemade silicon chip with up to 32 high-performance cores and a 128-core option for graphics, according to one new report the Mark Gurman.

Bloomberg says there are two new ‌Mac Pro‌ models in the works, both with a redesign and are slated for “with 20 or 40 variants of compute cores, consisting of 16 high-performance cores or 32 high-performance cores and four or eight high efficiency cores.

The chips would also include 64-core or 128-core options for the GPU part. The computing core goes well above the maximum 28 cores offered by current Intel chips in Mac Pro, while high-end graphics chips would replace parts now manufactured by Advanced Micro Devices Inc. In short, it’s not all clear but it is certain that the last information ends in 2022 or 2023 at the latest.
