The Darwin Arch collapsed near the Galapagos Islands (video)

The famous rock formation near the Galapagos Islands, known as Darwin’s Arch, collapsed, the BBC reported.

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Environment said the cause of its collapse was “natural erosion”.

The formation, named after the eminent British naturalist Charles Darwin, was a leading diving destination.

The Galapagos Islands, located 903 kilometers west of the mainland of Ecuador, are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known worldwide for its unique plants and wildlife.

Tourists from all over the world travel to the Galapagos Islands to enjoy their biodiversity, which inspired Darwin’s theory of evolution.
