KOMPAS.com – Missile defense system Iron Dome property of Israel was questioned, after five of its citizens were killed in a rocket attack.
The system, which Israeli officials say has an interception rate of 90 percent, has protected many lives in Tel Aviv, Ashkelon and other cities that are focal points for Hamas.
However, intelligence sources have warned that Hamas has significantly increased its arsenal, allowing it to penetrate Israel’s “iron shield”.
“Iron Dome has always had weaknesses,” wrote Jerusalem Post intelligence, terrorism and legal analysis Yonah Jeremy Bob Telegraph.
However, Bob said that this condition did not mean that Iron Dome was no longer effective.
“If Hamas has more long-range rockets this could have an impact on Israel’s plans for this battle and especially the question of how long it will last,” he said.
The scale of this week’s rocket strikes was unprecedented, with about a thousand missiles fired at a greater distance to challenge the capabilities of the Iron Dome system.

Introduced 10 years ago, the Iron Dome system was developed by two Israeli defense companies with financial and technical assistance from the United States.
Iron Dome is designed to intercept short-range rockets and mortars using a radar detection system, then fires the rockets into the air to destroy incoming missiles.
The Israeli military has deployed 10 Iron Dome systems across the country and praised the systems for reducing casualties from rocket attacks.
“The number of Israelis killed and injured would have been much higher if not for Israel’s Iron Dome, which has been a savior,” said Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus.
The unprecedented intensity of rocket fire marks a new tactic for Hamas to try to gain control of the Iron Dome system.

Since the last major conflict in 2014, militants have increased their arsenal and rocket capabilities.
“According to our estimates, we are talking about between 20,000 and 30,000 rockets in Gaza today, rockets and mortars,” said Lt. Col. Conricus.
“They have a sophisticated rocket arsenal, I think it is equivalent to the capability of shooting some small European countries,” he continued.
As is known, the attacks on each other have been carried out by Israel and Hamas in the last few days. As a result, a number of buildings were destroyed and the death toll reached hundreds.
The re-heating of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has emerged since last Ramadan which was triggered by various factors.
