The national government suspended beef exports for 30 days, a measure aimed at containing the pressure on prices that has been registered in recent months, confirmed tonight the Ministry of Productive Development.
The decision was communicated this Monday by the President Alberto Fernndez to representatives of the sector nucleated in the Consortium of Argentine Meat Exporters ABC, to whom he clarified that the same could get up earlier if “positive results” are observed for the application of these and other measures that will be available.
The suspension of exports for 30 days was determined “as a consequence of the sustained increase in the price of beef in the domestic market” and is part of “the implementation of a set of emergency measures.”
It is sought, in this way, order the operation of the sector, restrict speculative practices, improve export traceability and avoid tax evasion in foreign trade.

“While these measures are being implemented, beef exports will be limited for a period of 30 days,” it was officially explained after the meeting led by the president.
This meeting was attended by the Minister of Productive Development, Matas Kulfas; the Secretary of Internal Trade, Paula Espaol; and the representatives of the meat export sector Mario Ravettino, Carlos Alberto Rusech, Gustavo Kahal and Martn Costantini.
The president informed the representatives of the ABC consortium that “said period may be shortened in the event that the implementation of the measures generates positive results.”
In the same way, it was reported that Exception mechanisms will be enabled for foreign trade operations in progress.
Last week, the Argentine Beef Promotion Institute (Ipcva) had reported that prices of the different cuts of beef increased 65.3% during April, compared to a year ago, about 20 points above annualized retail inflation through the first quarter.
In the same way, in April, pork meat increased its retail value by 58.7% compared to the same month of 2020 and chicken meat by 44.2%.
The temporary suspension of exports is announced just one day after President Fernández expressed his concern about the “inexplicable” increase in prices in the last two months.
“Honestly, there is no reason, other than the increase in consumption, to explain those increases that occurred in March and April,” analyzed Fernndez.

The president’s reference was regarding the agreement that the Government reached with the Exporters Consortium and other chambers of the refrigeration sector to sustain until the end of the year a program of 11 cuts of high local demand, at prices below the market average.
This agreement announced 10 days ago is expected to reach 3,000 outlets throughout the country with a volume of 8,000 tons per month, 25% more than what has been supplied in the last months since the implementation of this agreement.
