Memphis Depay has belonged to Lyon since 2017, but this summer all indications are that the Dutch outer forward will leave the club when his contract with the club expires.
In recent weeks, Depay has been stated to be relevant for big clubs such as Juventus and Barcelona, and in previous years, Depay has primarily been linked with a move to the latter club. But the transition has not happened and perhaps that is an explanation for the move that Depay is now making to bring about a move.
The Dutchman will in fact represent himself in future transfer windows instead of enlisting the help of an agent. A move that is not part of the norms in top European football.
“It’s time for me to take control of my career,” Depay wrote on Twitter, continuing:
“I have come to a point where I have to make important decisions about my future. I have decided to negotiate my own future with people I trust and legal expertise.”
Depay is clear that it is he who decides which will be his next club address.
“I will decide on my next destination myself. You will be the first to know,” he writes.
During this year’s season, Depay has been noted for 20 goals and ten assists in 36 games in Ligue 1.
