Steven Gerrard is a perfect fit for Liverpool’s job, but he shouldn’t be running out of Ibrox just yet, Ally McCoist believes.
The 40-year-old, who made 504 appearances as a Reds player, led the Rangers to a first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years, as his team remained undefeated during the 2020/21 season.

Gerrard’s Rangers finished 25 points ahead of rivals Celtic
Gerrard has been hired to succeed Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield hot seat one day and Gers legend McCoist has dismissed suggestions that Gerrard should lead another major club before possibly taking the reins at Liverpool.
He told talkSPORT: “I don’t think it’s soon.
“Listening to Steven’s post-game interviews like he’s done since he took office, he speaks very, very well. You just get it.
“I heard him say that Liverpool have a great coach, and they have a great coach. Liverpool fans are very, very happy with their coach. So are the Rangers.
But would Steven Gerrard be a perfect fit for Liverpool in the future? Hundred percent.
.
The winning mentality has returned to Rangers since Gerrard took over in 2018.
“It’s all about time. In my opinion, the moment is not right, right now.
I would love for you to stay [at Rangers] For a couple more years, win a couple of titles [compete] in the Champions League … and then if the time is right, move to Liverpool.
“I’m not sure if it is a good decision for him to go elsewhere before Liverpool. What if it didn’t work?
And Gerrard looks like he’s already looking ahead to next season, once the celebrations are over.
“You can see the last games where we are lacking in certain areas,” he said, explaining that the club got the draft right in the last window.
“I had some very interesting meetings with the board and they are with me, they will support me and we will come back.”
