One of the keys to the proper functioning of our team is to have the updated drivers. Each component has its own and Microsoft wants to improve the update process in Windows 10 facilitating the update of these drivers directly from the “Device Manager”.
When we get a PC. it comes with the necessary drivers for its components to work and communicate with other elements of the operating system. By default our PC has the generic drivers for each component and to update them we must use Windows Update. A process that will change soon.
Using Device Manager

Microsoft prepares changes in the process of updating the computer’s drivers and if they are now updated through Windows Update, almost always automatically, now they will do so through the “Device administrator”.
Users who want to update the drivers of their components (screen, sound card, Bluetooth …) must access the “Device administrator” and find the component that requires a new driver. At that point it will be enough to right click and select “Properties” and then click on the option “Update the driver” to upload the new package that is downloaded from the manufacturer’s website.

In addition, to avoid having to search individually for each of the components to update, Microsoft is testing together with a search and filtering system within the hardware from the computer, a method that will allow users to quickly install new drivers without first identifying the device.

Yes indeed, you can only use this function when adding a driver for the corresponding devices and it cannot be used to update existing drivers. For the update process there is no other method than to find the component and use the “Update driver” option.

Incidentally Microsoft is adding new component classification systems within the “Device Manager” and thus we have new groups starting with Windows 10 Build 21343, improvements that will be implemented with the Sun Valley update in October or November.
- Devices by controllers: The components that use .inf files are listed.
- Drivers by type– This new option lists driver .inf files by device type.
- Drivers per device: this new option lists the devices and their drivers.
