An earthquake of magnitude 3.4 was registered on May 17, 2021 at 04:17 Bulgarian time, the National Seismological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences announced.
The epicenter was about 3 km. north of the town of Kardzhali. There is no evidence that the earthquake was felt by residents of nearby settlements.

According to the European Seismological Center, the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale at a depth of 5 km.
