Phil Mickelson accepts invitation to US Open | Sports | The sun

Lhe 50-year-old southpaw has never won the US Open, but has finished second six times, a record.

It will be the American’s 30th appearance at the U.S. Open, which this year will be held June 17-20 in Torrey Pines, near his hometown of San Diego.

“Phil Mickelson’s incredible record in the USGA and over his entire career is among the most remarkable in golf history. […] We are delighted to welcome him to the Torrey Pines US Open this year, ”said Mike Davis, USGA General Manager.

Mickelson, who hasn’t won a tournament since 2019, has won five Majors: three Augusta Masters (2004, 2006 and 2010), a PGA Championship in 2005 and the British Open in 2013.

“Winning the United States Open is a lifelong and elusive dream, I’ve come so close so many times,” recalled the American, second in 1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009 and 2013.

Should they win the US Open, the 116th World would join Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan and Gary Player in the closed club of players to have won the Major Four in their careers.
