Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Lime often linked to help lose weight. This is thanks to the acid content in lime which is claimed to melt body fat.
But, is it true that the benefits of lime for this diet are proven to be effective?
Citing the explanation of dietitian, Jaime Ackerman Foster through the site Livestrong, this has not been proven to be true. Jaime said that so far there has been no evidence to suggest that lime can help you lose weight.
Instead of losing weight, lime is justified to have benefits as a good source of vitamin C. Even drinking one glass of lime water can provide 22 percent of the daily requirement of vitamin C and keep the body hydrated.
Reported Medical New Today, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), lime with a diameter of 5 cm contains nutrients, including:
- 22 milligrams of calcium
- 12 milligrams of phosphorus
- 68 miligram of potassium
- 19.5 milligrams of vitamin C or equivalent (20-25 percent to meet daily vitamin C needs).
Of these nutritional content, lime provides various benefits such as reducing the risk of cancer, strengthening immunity, to controlling blood sugar.
Although the truth of the benefits of lime for the diet has not been proven, the myths circulating about lime being used to help this diet have long been believed.

This is because the citric acid in lime can indeed increase metabolism and is enough to help burn calories and a little stored fat in the body.
However, you can’t depend on lime completely. Because the weight loss process must be balanced with physical activity and controlling calorie intake.
According to the study results, vitamin C in lime can reduce blood sugar levels because it has a low glycemic load which can regulate the absorption of sugar into the blood vessels.
Therefore, in some cases, people with diabetes are recommended to consume lime water to prevent a drastic increase in blood sugar.
For those of you who are interested in going on a diet by inserting lime as a side drink, that’s fine. But again, it didn’t have much of an effect.

The reason is that not everyone has a good tolerance for lime and it is not recommended in some conditions.
1. Citrus Allergy
Quoting from Healthline, someone who is allergic to citrus fruits such as lime, orange, or lemon, will usually give an allergic response.
If they consume citrus, it can cause swelling and itching in the body so that they have difficulty breathing.
2. Stomach Disorders
In addition, it is also possible for some people to experience acid reflux after consuming lime because of its acidity.
Even if you have digestive problems and consume lime water on an empty stomach, it can trigger heartburn, nausea, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing.
3. Risk of Cavities
The benefits of lime for the diet are not entirely promising and it is advisable not to consume excessively.
Instead of losing weight because of its sour taste, it actually runs the risk of making cavities in your teeth because the acid in lime can erode tooth enamel.
