[MZ+] Interview on sport and exercise in the pandemic: Corona waves weary children and adolescents – Münster

For months there was only emergency care in school and daycare. This also means: no or only limited physical education, no club sports for children and young people. Prof. Dr. Nils Neuber from the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Münster is an expert on children and youth sports and spokesman for the research association for children and youth sports in North Rhine-Westphalia. Our editor Karin Völker asked Neuber about his assessment of children’s and youth sports in the corona pandemic and the consequences of the sedentary period. Many experts are sounding the alarm about the effects of the pandemic on exercise habits and the health of the younger generation. Is the situation really that serious? Neuber: We have good data on this from the first corona wave. According to this, one can say that many children in lockdown a year ago found valves to act out their urge to move. Sports activities have declined significantly, but everyday exercise has even increased in some cases.
