Starting today at 4:00 a.m. and until 7:00 a.m., that is, for 3 hours, the traffic of vehicles in the La Romelia sector will be unblocked continuously, later the passage of vehicles from intermittently. This means that the road will be closed for one hour and will open for another hour. This is how the measure will work for 12 hours, specifically between 7:00 a.m. m until 7:00 pm
This Sunday, May 16, the measure will work in a similar way to today, but starting from 6:00 a.m.
The truckers who keep La Romelia blocked with the governorates of Risaralda, Caldas and Quindío, as well as with the mayoralties of Pereira, Dosquebradas and Santa Rosa de Cabal, reached these agreements.
Although it was hoped to provide a solution to the blockades that remain in the Versalles (Quindío) and Chinchiná (Caldas) sectors, so far no agreement has been reached to unblock the main roads throughout the Coffee Region.
Another of the commitments made between the aforementioned parties is that the governors of Risaralda and Quindío will request the national government to activate a technical transport table convened for next Monday in the city of Armenia, with the presence of high government delegates. national, made up of the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
This meeting is of vital importance, since both the leaders of the Coffee Axis and the truckers agree that the basic solutions to enable the roads must come from the national government.
Impacts
The blockade in the La Romelia sector has generated enormous economic losses in Risaralda. Tons of different products have not been able to reach the metropolitan area of Pereira. Food, raw materials, among others, have been dammed in the blockage that has already completed more than 15 days.
This has also harmed thousands of people who constantly travel between the metropolitan area and Santa Rosa de Cabal, especially those who travel on inter-municipal buses, since they have had to make transfers in La Romelia, which not only increases the times of travel, there was also a slight increase in the cost of tickets.
Although the aforementioned measure mitigates the shortage of products, it is not a final solution, since the blockades in Quindío and Caldas, as well as those in Valle del Cauca, do not allow the arrival of different elements to Risaralda.
The blockade in the aforementioned place has also affected tourism, since many visitors, including international ones, come to Pereira to travel to Santa Rosa de Cabal to places such as the hot springs, but like other people, they had to do transfer at La Romelia.
Likewise, it is necessary to point out that the intermittent unblocking in La Romelia does not mean that the protests as a result of the national strike have ended, they will continue as the promoters have pointed out, including transitory closures of roads within the municipalities, especially in Pereira and Dosquebradas.
