Why did some characters disappear from your television series? Today we meet 10 characters who from one day to the next stopped appearing in their respective series.
Has it ever happened to you that you are watching a series and suddenly, a recurring secondary character stops appearing and you don’t see his hair again? Throughout the history of television there have been cases in which, for one reason or another, some actors have stopped giving life to characters that nothing else was known about.
Either for reasons external to the series or due to some production decision or the interpreter himself, some series have left aside some characters that had some relevance, although they have not been cases as “notorious” as that of Batwoman, of course.
Today at Hobby Consolas we review 10 characters who disappeared from their television series without a trace. These are not cases of characters who happen to be embodied by another interpreter, as the case of Aunt Viv in The Prince of Bel-Air, but cases in which the character disappears completely.
TINA PINCIOTTI – THOSE WONDERFUL 70
The cases of “missing brothers” in television series proliferate quite a bit. On Those wonderful 70s, Donna briefly had a little sister named Tina during an episode. Later, his whereabouts were briefly reflected upon.

JUDY WINSLOW – HOME THINGS

GWEN – THE MINDY PROJECT
The Mindy Project is a good example of what happens in some companies when a worker wants to tackle other projects simultaneously. Anna Camp played Gwen, Mindy’s best friend and her daughter’s godmother, or at least she did until episode 17.
In order to face new projects, Anna Camp requested that she be demoted from the main actress of the cast to a recurring character. SELBY – MAD ABOUT YOU
Selby was a character that appeared only in the first 13 episodes of Mad About You. The goal was for him to serve as “the single friend” throughout the series, but the performance did not like the bosses and resulted in the departure of the actor.
Thanks to movies and television series, there are many myths that are not scientifically real but that everyone takes for true.

However, mention of the character would be made later, although only in passing, being one of those cases in which the character and his existence did not end in limbo.
JONATHAN TURNER – ME AND THE WORLD
The disappearance of the professor Jonathan Turner in the series Me and the world it’s also one of those somewhat surreal situations. After being a recurring character between seasons 2 to 4, Turner suffers an accident and appears for the last time in a hospital, but no explanation is given as to whether he dies or what the hell happens to him at the end.
If even Anthony Tyler Quinn, who brought the character to life, knows what happened for sure. It would take fourteen years for us to see the character alive in the revival of the series.
SARA SPOONER – THE KING OF QUEENS
In the early episodes of The King of Queens, Carrie had a younger sister named Sara, with whom Spence was in love. After five episodes, Sara disappeared, and as if it were an episode of The X-Files, she was never heard from again.

The writers preferred to focus on what they found to be working in the series, dispensing with secondary ones and going so far as to present Carrie as an only child in subsequent flashbacks.
JOHN BURNS – TAXI
In some series, as is the case of Taxi, it happens that the scriptwriters discover that two characters cover the same personality archetype, so it is necessary to dispense with one of them. That’s what happened to the characters in John Burns Y Tony Banta.
Randall Carver would stop playing John Burns in the first season of Taxi, but would briefly appear as himself in the film of Jim Carrey Man on the Moon. The legacy did not completely disappear.
DONNA GABLE – KEVIN CAN WAIT
If a character doesn’t work … you kill him, period. That’s what Kevin’s writers must have thought you can expect about Donna Gable, who during the first season was the wife of Kevin James’ character.
When the bosses decided to return to the original essence they wanted to give to the series, they killed Donna “during the summer holidays” so that Kevin would be a single father. The little narrative impact of Donna Gable’s death made the plot feel so strange that Kevin can hope it would end up canceled after its second season.
CHUCK CUNNUNGHAM – HAPPY DAYS
One of the most famous cases of disappearance of a character is that of Chuck Cunningham on Happy Days. Chuck had a presence during the first season of the series and a brief appearance in the second, although played by another actor.
His disappearance was never commented on in the plot of the series. In fact, after a while, it was said that the family only had two children, omitting Chuck’s existence altogether. This series owes the nickname given to the disappearance of characters in television series, which we occasionally refer to as the “Chuck Cuningham Syndrome“.
